Camino Day 76 -77 (Vilaserío to Cee) 30K- #CAMINO #HIKING

So it turned out we all survived the night and slowly one by one left the creepy municipal at Vilaserío. The Magician woke in an epic-ally bad mood. He had a very serious case of man- flu, fueled by a need for space to himself. He set off from the municipal alone, leaving me to slowly catch Continue reading Camino Day 76 -77 (Vilaserío to Cee) 30K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Camino Day 75 (Alto do Mar Do Ovellas to Vilaserío) 26K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Our Camino family woke earl-ish in the morning, setting off from the albergue all together. Quickly we separated into two groups. My Brother, a beautiful Spanish woman and I walked together all morning.  With light- hearted conversations, we spent most Continue reading Camino Day 75 (Alto do Mar Do Ovellas to Vilaserío) 26K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Camino Day 74 (Santiago to Alto do Mar Do Ovellas) 16K- #CAMINO #HIKING

We had a lie in this morning before heading out to grab breakfast with our Camino family. This was strange as it was the first time we’d walked without our back packs in over 2 months. Leaving our feet and shoulders feeling magically lighter. Unfortunately we needed to make our flights from Porto in a short week we had to keep walking today if we would reach Finisterra and Continue reading Camino Day 74 (Santiago to Alto do Mar Do Ovellas) 16K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Camino Day 73 (Irene to Santiago) 28K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Waking at 3am I wriggled round trying to get back to sleep, but failing miserable, I then got up to start my walk into Santiago. Here I found the front door locked, with a notice saying the door wouldn’t be opened till 8-30am. I was seething. I wanted to walk, to run, to escape. I was feeling rubbish for wanting to walk alone, and just wanted to drive my emotional energy into a hard-paced walk, Continue reading Camino Day 73 (Irene to Santiago) 28K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Forward- #Poem #Poetry

My legs tremble

Muscles twitching under pressure

Knees buckling

I feel your shoulder

Under my arm

Pulling me up

When I want to fall down

Shoes slip on gravel

Grips missing their goal

You catch me as I fall

The ground flattening out

My stride is sturdier

You hold hands out

Camino Day 69 (Triacastela to Sarria) 27K- #CAMINO #HIKING

We left Triacastela late in the morning after wondering around trying to find the pharmacy to get some medication to treat our usual 101 ailments you get from walking >25k every day for weeks on end. I couldn’t help but feel very excited today! The Magician, my Brother and I would be going to visit a community that was set up by a writer. In the community they ran Continue reading Camino Day 69 (Triacastela to Sarria) 27K- #CAMINO #HIKING

What should I do?- #Poem #Poetry

Go back as a corporate negotiator

Bang a table over self importance

Demanding blood for the last penny

Should I change completely?

Live outside till my back gives out

Hands gnarled from the love of green growth

Should I give walking tours

Sharing my love of nature

Or history of cities

Camino Day 66 (Ponferrerada to Villafranca del Bierzo) 25K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Ponferrerada is the last major town before Santiago! There’s a fortress here that the Templar knights built (after they were directed to look after this place by the Kings of Leon). Once they were disbanded though, the area was taken over by the Dukes of Lemos. The town continued to thrive with the surge of medieval pilgrims though, which was only added too with the discovery of coal and iron ores here in the 20th century.

We were starting to get closer and closer to the end of the Camino, less than 2 weeks left. This was starting to feel pretty strange and I was finding myself starting to dread the end and yet unable to wait for it at the same time. I thought about people having walked long distances struggling to acclimatise back into their life before. Questions filled our conversations about what will you do after? How do you bring the Camino home with you. Some had jobs to go straight back to, others were going back to studies, others would continue to travel. The Magician Continue reading Camino Day 66 (Ponferrerada to Villafranca del Bierzo) 25K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Camino Day 65 (Foncebadon Monte Irago to Ponferrerada) 27K- #CAMINO #HIKING

The Magician and I woke up early to do yoga together in the morning, But this has to have been the weirdest yoga I’ve ever done. It basically started with 20 minutes of dancing in a giant circle and we were meant to become ‘lost Continue reading Camino Day 65 (Foncebadon Monte Irago to Ponferrerada) 27K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Camino Day 64 (Astorga to Foncebadón) 26K- #CAMINO #HIKING

We got up and left the Muncipal late in the morning, and spent a long time wondering round Astorga to try and find somewhere open for breakfast. As the Magician and I had arrived in darkness, this was the first time we Continue reading Camino Day 64 (Astorga to Foncebadón) 26K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Congruent- #Poem #Poetry

Emotions bubble round me

Space between my stimulus

And impending reaction

Giving a gaping hole of peace

Allowing logical of mind

Peace of thought

Decision to be as I am

Not to return to the life of chaos

Camino Day 63 (Villar de Mozarife to Astorga) 31K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Today was a day for sadness and excitement. I was excited because the Magician and I were only two days from Cruz de Ferro (a large cross). At the cross you could leave a stone you carried all the way from home here (to represent the burden you would leave on the pilgrimage). The one I had with me I’d actually picked up a few months before in Costa Rica. It had the strips of a tiger on it, representing to me, that if I wanted something badly enough, even I could Continue reading Camino Day 63 (Villar de Mozarife to Astorga) 31K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Earnt my Sweat- #Poem #Poetry

Legs gently warmed

Arms lose at my sides

Curled at the elbow in a warrior pose

Sun on my face

Gently flecks of rain to cool my brow

Concrete falling away under my strides

Pound music in rhythm with my heart beat

Stress falls away

Knowledge that I can

In every stride

Camino Day 62 (León to Villar de Mazarife) 23K- #CAMINO #HIKING

With our little group of four we left the hotel late in the morning, enjoying a long and leisurely breakfast in León. The city was buzzing in the Continue reading Camino Day 62 (León to Villar de Mazarife) 23K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Camino Day 61 (Reliegos to León) 29K- #CAMINO #HIKING

Today we’d be walking to León! It was the last major city before Santiago, and I was starting to feel the end of the walk. In 20 days time I’d be home for my Mum’s birthday. This made me sad to finish, but I also felt guilty as I knew my mum was in hospital (from a broken leg, which was complicated as she is paraplegic). This left me with a strange conflict inside. Sadness, guilt, Continue reading Camino Day 61 (Reliegos to León) 29K- #CAMINO #HIKING
